History[]
On 16 October 1981, the Transport Department (TD) invited open tenders for nine sets of 19 new green minibus (GMB) routes, including Kowloon GMB Route 8, as well as two new routes, Routes 3 and 4, which were awarded to Hop Fat Light Bus.[1]
These routes came into service in 1982, and with the exception of Route 4 and the later branch route 4M, which ceased operation due to insufficient patronage, the other two routes have been in operation since then.
In response to the traffic demand in Ho Man Tin, the Government approved the introduction of an additional supplementary route 8S, which came into operation on 10 October 2011.[2] Another supplementary service, 8M, commenced service on 23 October 2016 to connect residents of Ho Man Tin Estate and Oi Man Estate to MTR Ho Man Tin Station.
