The Hong Kong Island Green Minibus Route 2 is operated by General Elite Limted (景益有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 11872C). It runs circular between Central (Hong Kong Station) and Old Peak Road, passing through May Road and Tregunter Path. It is the sole GMB route serving the areas and provides service only on Mondays to Saturdays.

History[]

  • 17 June 1974: Route 2 came into service, with a headway of about 15-30mins/headway and a fare of $1.0, with no service during public holidays. [1]; HMS Tamar terminus, East of Edinburgh Plaza.
  • From 9 December 1975 to 23 December 1976: This route stopped service due to Tregunter Path prohibited the car entered. [2]
  • 24 November 1978: Ah Yuen Super Light Bus Company was accepted about 3 years of franchise by Transport Department, which operated Route 1, 2 and 3. [3][4][5]
  • 23 October 1981: After the government accepted Ah Yuen Super Light Bus Company cessation of operations, this route as well as routes 1 and 3 were re-tendered. [6][7]
  • 1 December 1981: Changed to operate by So Kei. [8]
  • 4 April 1985: Changed to operate by Sun Luen Green Minibus Company Limited (新聯專綫小巴) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 2708C).
  • 12 May 1986: Rerouted towards Central direction via Ice House Street and Queen's Road Central to Pedder Street, omitting via Wyndham Street, to facilitate with the new arrangement that vehicles travelling down Wyndham Street were no longer allowed to go directly to Pedder Street.[9]
  • End of 1990: Central terminus was moved to Lung Wui Road.
  • Middle of 2000: Changed to operate by General Elite Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 11872C).
  • 5 May 2005: Central terminus was moved to Hong Kong Station Minibus terminus.
  • 4 June 2007: Departures to Central before 10:00 were detoured via Admiralty.
  • 25 June 2007: The stop at Pedder Street outside World-Wide House was cancelled.
  • 8 August 2021: Morning headways no longer served Hornsey Road and Admiralty.
  • 30 March 2022: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [10]

  • Same fare regardless of age.
  • Elderly persons aged 65 or above using Elderly Octopus or Personalised Octopus cards, Hong Kong residents aged 60 to 64 using JoyYou Card, and eligible persons with disabilities using Personalised Octopus cards with"Persons with Disabilities Status" can enjoy a flat fare of $2.0 per journey under the Concessionary Fare.
  • Passengers are required to tender exact fare in cash or by Octopus card upon boarding. No change will be given.

Notes:
  • Passengers must use the same Octopus Card to pay the fare for both the minibus and MTR to enjoy the above-mentioned interchange concession.
  • Passengers can enjoy the above transfer discount at any MTR station / minibus stop that connects to the second leg of the route.
  • The MTR ride does not apply to Light Rail, Airport Express, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus services.
  • The MTR interchange concession only applies to paid rides. Unless otherwise specified, passengers using the Monthly Pass Enhanced Version or Disneyland Line Monthly Ticket (including those who have paid First Class Supplementary Fare) cannot enjoy this concession when taking the MTR at designated stations; however, if Enhanced Monthly Pass or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Ticket holders take paid rides outside the designated stations, the concession still applies.
  • If passengers have just used the same Octopus Card for the Airport Express "Free MTR Connection," they cannot simultaneously enjoy the MTR interchange concession.
  • If both "MTR Fare Saver" and "MTR Interchange Concession" are applicable, passengers can only enjoy one of the higher discounts.
  • Higher concession amounts are available for certain GMB routes at designated MTR stations.

According to Transport Department's Schedule of Services, this route is served by a total of 1 minibus. This routes have a combined carrying capacity of not less than 48 passengers per direction during the peak hour

Currently Hong Kong Island Route 1, 1A, 2, 3, 3A and 28 series under General Elite have a total of 36 Toyota Coasters, including 15 16-seater minibuses and 21 19-seater minibus. All of these vehicle can support out of the permanent routes when necessary.

Ridership[]

  • 2016: During an on-site inspection in the morning of 16 March, the passenger capacity at Old Peak Road Dynasty Court minibus terminus was 12%. [11]
  • 2018:
    • May: The capacity of Central direction was average 30%, with that of individual peak hour departures just over 70%. [12]
    • August: The capacity in every half hours during the service periods throughout the day rose up from 0.0% to 43.8%, and the average capacity was 13.2%. [13]

  1. Numbers placed after the model Toyota Coaster (if any) are only used within the transport enthusiasts, others (including the industry) does not use such names.
  2. This minibus always idled at outside of Whampoa Garden after transferred to Chit Fai Motors, had not served on other route
