Fung Shue Wo Road is a road on Tsing Yi Island, Kwai Tsing District, New Territories, which runs in the shape of an "L", connecting Tam Kon Shan Interchange in the north and Tsing Yi Ferry Pier in the east.

History[]

Fung Shue Wo Road was first constructed in the 1980s and opened to traffic in 1984. At that time, its north-western end was at Tsing Yip Street, and it was gazetted and named on 12 September 1986.[1] To coincide with the opening of Tsing Tsuen Road, Fung Shue Wo Road was extended to the Tam Kon Shan Interchange in 1987 and that section was gazetted and incorporated into Fung Shue Wo Road on 22 July 1988.[2]

On 1 April 1984, New Territories GMB Route 88 relocated its Tsing Yi terminus to the newly completed Fung Shue Wo Temporary Housing Area (present-day Tsing Yu New Village), becoming the first public transport route to traverse Fung Shue Wo Road. The second-generation Tsing Yi Ferry Pier was completed in 1986. KMB Route 44 began serving the bus terminus opposite the ferry pier on 2 June that year, becoming the first franchised bus route to use this road, though it only covered a short section east of Tsing King Road.

On 2 November 1986, KMB Route 44M commenced service, becoming the first franchised bus route to traverse the section of Fung Shue Wo Road near Tai Wong Ha Tsuen. On 20 December the following year, Route 44M was extended to Cheung On Bus Terminus, marking the first route to pass through the section north of Tsing Yip Street.
