There are currently 33 Enviro500 buses owned by MTR, including 24 12m versions with fleet number prefixes 8 (purchased in two batches: 9+15) and 9 11.3m versions with fleet number prefixes 8.

12m Version[]

801-809[]

The KCRC purchased 9 Enviro500 12m buses in January 2007 [1] which were later sold to MTR after the rail merger to replace the first nine Leyland Olympian 11m (201-209). The buses are powered by Cummins ISLe-340B Euro IV engines, Voith DIWA 864.5 transmissions, Hanover green magnetic flap electronic plates and UK Deans doors with cross-push centre doors, with depot logos at the nozzles and an aluminum plaque on the rear hood stating "[Envrio500]". Envrio 500" on the rear bonnet.

Inside, the buses have straight staircase, yellow embossed handrails and blue-green fireproof floors, with lake blue as the color of the interior, azure-blue upper front and rear fiber assemblies, Lazzerini dark-green wavy imitation leather seats, and a reversing closed-circuit television at the rear of the buses. Although the buses are equipped with an oval stop reporter unit, which has been left unattended until now, and there is no television unit. In line with KCRC's previous practice of ordering new buses, the buses were assembled in the UK and arrived in Hong Kong by sea.

The first bus arrived in Hong Kong on 24 November 2007, and on 1 December KCRC added its own signage to the buses and issued a press release announcing the arrival of the new buses. However, after the rail merger the following day, the buses were sold to MTR Corporation as part of the merger agreement, which means that the buses have never formally operated in the KCRC's passenger service.

The first bus (801) was registered on 31 January 2008, and the remaining buses were put into service between March 2008 and April 2008. As these buses were used to serve the MTR Feeder Bus routes connecting to the East Rail Line, they were registered with KMB logos only.

After the cancellation of the Route K16, the demand for MTR feeder buses decreased, and 801 and 802 were redeployed to the MTR Bus routes connecting to the West Rail Line in September 2010, and then repainted in 2011 with a new white, light green, and light purple MTR bus livery. 2011 saw the rest of the buses repainted with a new white, red, and grey MTR bus livery,

With the occupation of Hung Fuk Estate in the third quarter of 2015, Routes K75 and K75P were reorganised and the former were operated by double-decker buses throughout the day. To cope with the change in demand, 803 was redeployed to MTR Bus routes serving the West Rail Line in May 2015, and repainted with the new MTR Bus livery, but without the stop announcement system, making it the only existing double-decker bus series without such a system. 804 was similarly redeployed to MTR Bus routes serving the West Rail Line in December 2015, but retained the original MTR Feeder Bus livery and only removing the KMB logo and replacing it with the MTR logo. In January 2018, 804 returned to MTR Feeder Bus routes serving the East Rail Line, with the KMB logo reaffixed to it, but was redeployed again to MTR Bus routes serving the West Rail Line in January 2021, but returned to MTR Feeder Bus routes serving the East Rail Line again in July of the same year. In June 2022, 804 returned to the Northwest New Territories to serve MTR bus routes. Currently, 801-803 are mainly serving Route K76.

From December 2016, the alloy covers were removed from this batch of buses, and from January 2017, 801-804 were gradually replaced with Hanover diode (LED) orange electronic destination signs, with the rest of the buses to be replaced within 2018.

MTR placed an additional order for 15 Enviro500 12m buses in 2009 to replace the remaining Leyland Olympian 11m (211-224). The major differences between this batch of buses and the previous batch of buses are as follows:

  • The upper deck command lamps at the rear were changed from one large lamp and one small lamp to two large lamps.
  • 815-824 were painted with new white, red and gray MTR Feeder Bus livery at the time of assembly.
  • These buses were converted to be assembled at Shenzhen Wuzhoulong Motor Co.

Only nine Enviro500 12m were initially ordered by KCRC because it was expected that the MTR Feeder Bus fleet would be reduced after all Leyland Olympian 11m (201-224) were retired. However, one Passenger Service License quota was retained by MTR when the batch of buses was handed over to MTR, and this batch of buses coincidentally filled the relevant Passenger Service Licence vacancy.

The first bus (810) was licensed on 16 April 2009 and the remaining buses were put into service between May 2009 and August 2009. As these buses were used to serve the MTR Feeder Bus routes connecting to the East Rail Line, they were registered with KMB logos only.

In 2011, 810-814 were successively repainted with a new white, red and grey MTR Feeder Bus livery, in line with 815-824.

11.3m Version[]

825-833[]

Chassis number: SFD369NR4BGTJ

MTR ordered nine Enviro500 11.3m in 2011 (contract number: K0408-10E)[2][3][4] to replace three Dennis Darts (501-503) and six Volvo B10Ms (401-406) on MTR Buses that connect to West Rail Line. The buses are powered by Cummins ISL8.9E5340B Euro 5 engines, ZF Ecomat 4 6HP604C transmissions, Hanover green magnetic flap electronic license plates, and Dutch Ventura doors with traverse centre doors. The buses were also fitted with TopoDyn function (the buses would rotate during low engine revolutions at start-up to reduce exhaust gas, but this resulted in slow acceleration and poor driving performance, causing dissatisfaction amongst bus drivers), a depot logo at the nipple position, and an aluminum plaque on the rear bonnet inscribing "Envrio500".

Inside, this batch of buses featured curved staircases, yellow embossed handrails and fire-retardant floors in Lake Blue and Blue-Green, with Lake Blue as the color of the interior, azure-blue front and rear fiber assemblies on the upper deck, Lazzerini dark-green faux-leather seats, and a reversing CCTV at the rear of the bus. Unlike the 12-meter versions, these buses are licensed with a stop announcement system[5] The emergency doors on the lower deck rear have also been changed to a black, reinforced panel. The lower rear door was also replaced with a single piece of black tempered glass. In order to meet the tender requirement of carrying no less than 120 passengers, the low floor space in front of the alighting doors of these buses does not have a single seat, and is replaced by a standing bay, thus carrying two more passengers than the same model of buses of the NWFB (4000-4039). The buses were assembled at the Zhuhai Granton factory and driven to Hong Kong by road.

The first two buses (825 and 826) were registered on 28 September 2012, and the inaugural serviceK76 routes were launched on 5 October the same year[6].

One of them, 828/RT2217, had been replaced with Hanover diode (LED) orange electronic signage in mid-October 2014[7] but was switched back to the Hanover green magnetic flip-flop electronic sign[8] and eventually switching to Hanover Orange electronic plates again in 2018.

Beginning in December 2016, the alloy covers were removed from these buses.
