The Discovery Bay Internal Resident Bus Route 4 (Transport Department's official route number DB00R) is operated by Discovery Bay Transit Services Limited (DBTSL) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 6185A). It runs one-way from Coastline Villa to DB North, via La Costa, DB Plaza (near Discovery Bay Pier), Seabird Lane, DB International School, Parkridge Village, Greenvale Village, Neo Horizon and Chianti. Services towards Coastline Villa is provided by Route 4A instead.
History[]
Route 4 initially ran between Discovery Bay Ferry Pier and Parkridge Village (Parkridge Crescent), and the terminus was later relocated to Greenvale Village, Neo Horizon and Siena Two as phases of development in northern Discovery Bay became available.
- 27 December 2006: In conjunction with the commissioning of Route 9A, Route 4 was combined with Route 9A except for the morning and afternoon peak hours from Monday to Friday when it remained as a stand-alone service (the combined frequency is called "4/9A", which would continue to old Chianti Bus Terminus after Siena Two as compared with Route 4).[1]
- 1 September 2008: The village terminus was relocated to Chianti Interchange, with an additional drop-off point opposite Siena Two (Joyful Mansion).[2]
- 10 March 2010: The service was changed to early morning and morning peak hours Monday to Friday only. [3][4]
- 25 February 2017: Service was temporarily suspended due to the reconstruction of Discovery Bay Ferry Pier Bus Terminus, and was replaced by Routes T4 and T9 instead.
- 8 November 2020: Service was resumed and the following changes were made:[5]
- Changed to run between Peninsula Village (Coastline Villa) and DB North Plaza, replacing Route 7 which its service was still suspended;
- A new stop was added at "DBRC Tennis Court" stop for Peninsula Village direction, and at "Hillgrove Village (Elegance Court)" stop for DB North direction, whereas the two stops opposite 25 and 41 Seabird Lane were replaced by a stop opposite No.31;
- Enhanced to a daily whole-day service;
- Two trips daily at 01:05 and 01:35 would run between DB Plaza and DB North Plaza on a circular basis and would not head to Coastline Villa.
- 11 December 2021: Changed to run one-way towards DB North Plaza:[6]
- Service towards Peninsula Village (Coastline Villa) was independently numbered as Route 4A;
- Late night trips were independently numbered as Route N4.
- 20 July 2023: A trial measure allowing passengers to alight at mall entrance (outside OK Circle Convenience Store) at DB Plaza Bus Terminus was adopted. [7]

This route uses MAN NL273 and MAN NL323 as the main vehicles, occasionally using Enviro200 Dart.
This route, Routes 4A and N4 are the only Discovery Bay internal bus routes without vehicle restrictions, and double-decker buses are allowed. However, its fleet is shared with 9 and 9A routes which are subject to vehicle restrictions. To avoid mismatch of resources, double-decker buses are seldom deployed.

Ridership[]
This route, together with 4A, is the Discovery Bay Road Trunk Route, which serves a number of housing estates along the route, and is often fully packed due to the high demand for travelling to and from DB North Plaza and DB Plaza.
