The Cross-Harbour Special Bus Route (Overnight Service) N368 is operated solely by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB). It runs between Yuen Long (West) and Central (Macau Ferry), via Yuen Long Town, Au Tau, Kam Tin (Ko Po Tsuen), Mei Foo, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai (Hennessy Road) and Admiralty, and connects between Yuen Long and Hong Kong Island via Tai Lam Tunnel, Tsuen Wan Road, West Kowloon Corridor and Cross-Harbour Tunnel.
Route N968 which connected both sides of the Victoria Harbour via Western Harbour Crossing was commenced on April 2002 to replace the overnight service of Route 968, and was rerouted via Cross-Harbour Tunnel and renumbered as Route N368 out of the continuously low ridership and to save tunnel fees. It is currently the longest-serving overnight bus route in terms of service hours in Hong Kong, and is also the only regular solely-operated overnight cross-harbour bus routes together with Route N373.
History[]
For details of the development of the predecessor of this route, Cross-Harbour Bus Route N968, please refer to the article Cross-Harbour Bus Route N968.
- 13 September 2008: Route N368 was introduced to replace Route N968, with a switch to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel to save operating costs, and significant changes to the routing within Kowloon and Hong Kong Island:[1][2]
- The Hong Kong Island terminus was relocated to Central (Macau Ferry), adopting the opposite direction of the old route. As for Yuen Long, the route remained unchanged, and instead of travelling via Ting Kau Bridge, Cheung Tsing Tunnel and West Kowloon Highway, the route was changed to travel via Tuen Mun Road, Tsuen Wan Road, West Kowloon Corridor and Gascoigne Road Flyover, in order to avoid passing through Jordan.
- The change was effective from 23:45 on the night of 13 September from Yuen Long (West), and from 00:50 on 14 September from Central (Macau Ferry).
- 21 March 2015: Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) Enquiry System was introduced on this route. [3]
- 8 January 2017: Detoured via YOHO Mall Transport Interchange which was opened on the same day and no longer stopping at "YOHO Mall I" stop for Causeway Bay direction. [4][5][6]
- 24 December 2017: An additional stop was made at Mei Foo for both directions: [7][8]
- Rerouted via Cheung Sha Wan Road after Kwai Chung Road for Central (Macau Ferry) direction, with a new bus stop added at "Mei Foo Station", and thereafter return to the original routing at Lai Chi Kok Road;
- A new bus stop at "Mei Foo Station" on Lai Chi Kok Road was added for Yuen Long (West) direction;
- A new section fare at the above two stops for both directions were added;
- New Octopus interchange concessions with Routes N237, N241 and N260 to New Territories for Yuen Long (West) direction were added.
- 26 August 2018: To tie in with the commissioning of Route N373, new Octopus Interchange concessions with this route were added to facilitate passengers travelling between Causeway Bay and North District. [9]
- 12 November 2018: Detoured via Au Tau and Ko Po Tsuen for both directions. [10]
- 2 October 2022: The last bus times from Yuen Long (West) and Central (Macau Ferry) were postponed to 05:05 and 06:10 respectively.[11]

Related incicents[]
- 20 August 2017: At around 1:00 a.m., two private cars were involved in a minor collision off Tsuen Wan Road near City Point. At around 2:00 a.m., an Enviro500 MMC (ATENU142/SH6730) travelling in the direction of Yuen Long (West) failed to brake in time when it arrived at the scene of the incident and crashed into a police car in front of it, which was handling the traffic accident, and then crashed into one of the private cars and a tow truck which was about to tow away the private car. The 22-year-old private car driver, who could not avoid being hit by the police car, fell into the construction site under the bridge, hitting the rear of a private car in the site, and then rebounded and fell to the ground, sustaining serious injuries and losing consciousness. The KMB bus continued to run forward for several dozen metres and came to a halt on the expressway, with its left front end dented and damaged. The driver of the tow truck, the bus driver and the two passengers on board the bus were also injured, and the driver of the private car was eventually paralysed in the lower part of his body and incapacitated for work. [15][16]
- The 45-year-old female driver surnamed Lam involved was subsequently charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and was sentenced on 27 March 2019 to 15 months' imprisonment and three years' driving licence suspension, with completion of a driving improvement course. [17][18]
- For details, see Four-vehicle collision accident on Tsuen Wan Road in 2017.
- 28 June 2019: A Central (Macau Ferry)-bound Enviro500 MMC (ATENU121/SG6095) lost control and ran off the road during a U-turn at Western Fire Services Street, and ran straight into the next level of pavement and came to a halt after hitting a planter. The front end of the bus was severely damaged and it took some time for the KMB engineers to be able to tow the bus back to the road surface after the incident. [19]
- 21 July 2023: An Enviro500 MMC (ATENU1525/VP9189) bound for Central (Macau Ferry) crashed into the ceiling of the Yoho Hub podium on Long Wo Road due to entering the wrong lane during the diversion period, but no one was injured. [20]
