The defunct Cross-Harbour Urban Bus Route 917 was jointly operated by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) and Citybus. It ran between Sham Shui Po (Yen Chow Street) and Happy Valley (Lower), via Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei (Nathan Road) and Jordan in Kowloon, and Sheung Wan, Central, Admiralty (→) and Wan Chai (Queen's Road East) on Hong Kong Island, observing Western Harbour Crossing to and from Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.
This route, formerly Route 117 via Cross-Harbour Tunnel (CHT), was re-routed and renumbered in May 1997 to tie in with the opening of Western Harbour Crossing (WHC). This route was discontinued by the Transport Department in August 1999 to relieve traffic congestion in Central[1] and Route 117 was reinstated in its place.
History[]
- 1 May 1997: Route 917 came into service to tie in with the opening of the Western Harbour Crossing as one of the first "Western Harbour Express" routes.
- 16 August 1999: Service was cancelled and replaced by the reinstatement of its predecessor, Route 117, to relieve traffic congestion in Central.[1]
- The new Route 117 observes Cross Harbour Tunnel, and was diverted via Wan Chai Ferry Pier when heading to Sham Shui Po and to Causeway Bay when heading to Happy Valley (Lower).[3]
