The Cross-Harbour Bus Route 613 is operated solely by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB). It runs between On Tai (West) and Shau Kei Wan, via On Tat Estate, Sau Mau Ping, Lam Tin (Pik Wan Road), Yau Tong, Eastern Harbour Crossing, Quarry Bay and Sai Wan Ho.
As the first cross-harbour bus route in the Anderson Road Development Area, Route 613 is currently the only KMB solely-operated route serving the area east of North Point on a whole-day basis, and together with its branch route 613A, it is the cheapest cross-harbour route in Hong Kong.
History[]
Commencing background[]
In view of the near-completion of the public housing development at Anderson Road, the Transport Department (TD) published the "Proposed Arrangements for the Provision of Public Transport Services for Public Housing Development at Anderson Road" to the Traffic and Transport Committee of the Kwun Tong District Council (KTDC) on 8 January 2015, proposing the introduction of six brand new routes, of which four were intended to be operated by operators to be determined through open tender. This route was one of them, and was then proposed to be a one-way service during morning and evening peak hours only.[1]
The Transport Department announced on 11 January 2016 that KMB had been awarded the right to operate four new routes in the Anderson Road Development Area[2], which was designated as Route 613 and converted into a daily whole-day service.[3]
When the route was officially launched, the route between Pik Wan Road and the Eastern Harbour Crossing was revised to follow Route 603 via Ko Chun Court and Lei Yue Mun Plaza, which was different from the original proposal of northerm section of Ko Chiu Road (near Buddhist Ho Nam Kam Secondary School).
