The Cross-Harbour Bus Route 600 is operated solely by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB). It runs between Anderson and Central (Rumsey Street), via Sau Mau Ping (Po Tat Estate), MTR Lam Tin Station, Eastern Harbour Crossing, North Point, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Admiralty, which is an express route.
History[]
Commencing background[]
At the initial stage of the Anderson Road Development Area, there were no bus routes to and from the Central and Western District, and some residents used the lift to take route 619 to Four Shun and other routes, which increased the pressure on these routes. In June 2018, some District Councillors requested at the Traffic and Transport Committee meeting of the Kwun Tong District Council (KTDC) that additional relevant services be provided to the Anderson Road Development Area (Anderson Road). Representatives of the Transport Department (TD) claimed to have conveyed the views to the Bus Development Division (BDD) for follow-up. KMB had proposed to arrange for additional special trips from Anderson on Route 603 to Hong Kong Island via Lam Tin, but this did not materialise.[1][2]
In 2022, to tie in with the development of the Anderson Road Quarry site, TD proposed in the Bus Route Planning Programme for that year to operate routes during peak hours from Mondays to Fridays between the area and Central (Rumsey Street), travelling to/from North Point, Causeway Bay and Wan Chai via On Hei Street, On Yu Road, On Kin Road, On Sau Road, Po Lam Road, Sau Mau Ping Road, Tseung Kwan O Road and the Eastern Harbour Crossing. After an open tender process, the Transport Department announced in late August 2024 that the operating right was awarded to KMB.[3]
To tie in with the occupation of On Sau Court, the first Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) project at the Quarry development site, KMB announced the launch of Route 600 in March 2025, which would provide express cross-harbour services to Anderson and Po Tat Estates during peak hours and connect to the Eastern Harbour Tunnel BBI, so as to facilitate residents' interchange with routes such as Route 603 for faster travelling to Wan Chai and Central, or Route 613 for travelling to Hong Kong Island East. This route would mainly be operated by zero-emission electric buses to promote green transport. However, unlike the original alignment, this route will not pass through On Hei Street at the initial stage.
Route change history[]
- 30 March 2025: Route 600 entered service.[4][5]
- 12 May 2025: A new departure at 06:45 from Anderson on Mondays to Fridays was added.[6]
