The North Lantau External Bus Route E11 is operated by Citybus. It runs between Tin Hau Station and SKYCITY; after observing Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty, Central and Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island, it takes Western Harbour Crossing (WHC) and Lantau Link to and from Tung Chung Town Centre, Airport Logistics Area and Terminal Building.

Unlike other North Lantau External Bus Routes, Route E11, with route stickers in white on a green background on the station boards along the route (same as other WHC routes), is included in the WHC Interchange Concession Scheme, whereas the Cityflyer routes and Route E11S, which also pass through WHC, are excluded.

History[]

  • 18 January 1998: Route E11 commenced service between Causeway Bay (Moreton Terrace) and Chek Lap Kok, observing Tung Chung Ferry Pier on Saturdays and holidays.
    • This route was not included in the first 25 airport bus routes tendered by the Transport Department.
  • 2 February 1998: No longer observing Tung Chung Ferry Pier due to cessation of Tung Chung - Tai O Ferry service.[1]
  • 22 June 1998: Extended to Airport (Ground Transportation Centre) to tie in with the opening of the Airport Logistics Area.[2]
  • 6 July 1998: Both directions were detoured via Chun Ping Road.[3]
  • 11 July 1998: After leaving the Ground Transportation Centre, buses towards Causeway Bay were detoured via Cheong Lin Road directly to the Airport South Interchange, no longer observing Cheong Tat Road.[4]
  • 27 June 1999: Routing within the Airport Logistics Area was simplified:[5]
    • Towards Airport: Upon arrival at Chek Lap Kok South Road, buses would continue along Chek Lap Kok South Road straight to Chun Ping Road, and would not return to Chun Ping Road via Scenic Road, Chun Yue Road, Chun Wan Road South and Chun Wan Road;
    • Towards Causeway Bay: Upon reaching Chun Ping Road, buses were diverted via Chek Lap Kok South Road direct to Tung Chung, not returning to Chun Wan Road via Chun Wan Road South, Chun Yue Road and Scenic Road to Chek Lap Kok South Road; and at the same time, in view of the commissioning of the Bus Stop Loop on Scenic Road, buses were detoured via the loop and a new stop was set up there, in order to replace the intermediate stop "Cathay City" at Scenic Road southbound.
  • 2 April 2001: Hong Kong Island terminus was relocated to Tin Hau MTR Station; at the same time, a new intermediate stop was added at Pedder Street for Airport direction.[6]
  • 24 September 2004: Due to the permanent closure of the southern end of Cheong Tat Road, the bus stop "Car Park 2" on Cheong Tat Road was cancelled when heading towards Chek Lap Kok Ferry Pier, and was replaced by the stop at Car Park 1 on the temporary road to the east of Cheong Tat Road.
  • 16 August 2005: Octopus interchange concession with Route R8 was introduced.[7]
  • 20 December 2005: Extended to AsiaWorld-Expo to tie in with the opening of AsiaWorld-Expo.[8]
  • 1 July 2006: Interchange concessions with other WHC routes were introduced towards Hong Kong Island.[9][10]
  • 25 August 2008: The "Chun Ping Road" and "Airport Freight Forwarding Centre" stops originally located at Chun Wan Road eastbound towards AsiaWorld-Expo were cancelled permanently and replaced by a new "Airport Freight Forwarding Centre" stop between the two original stops.[11]
  • 20 September 2015: Departures from AsiaWorld-Expo between 07:40 and 12:50 on Mondays to Saturdays and 07:35 and 12:55 on Public Holidays, and departures from Tin Hau Station after 13:00 daily were detoured via Tung Chung North and renumbered as "E11A".[12]
  • 30 March 2017: Starting from 2:30pm, buses towards AsiaWorld-Expo were diverted via Cheong Hong Road underneath the bridge section of Cheong Tat Road to "Regal Airport Hotel" bus stop for Tung Chung Station direction, and the "Car Park 4" bus stop was cancelled to tie in with the closure of the section of Cheong Tat Road outside the Government Lounge Carpark for the Airport Passenger Terminal Building extension.[13][14]
  • 3 November 2017: The bus Stop "Terminal 1 and Terminal 2" was temporarily relocated from outside Carpark 1 to outside Terminal 1 with effect from 10:00am to accommodate the conversion of the former into a coach pick-up/drop-off area.[15][16]
  • 15 December 2017: "Next Bus" Arrival Time Inquiry Service was introduced on this route.[17]
  • 12 September 2021: The service time from AsiaWorld-Expo was revised to 05:20 to 07:20 and 16:20 to 00:00 on Mondays to Fridays, and 16:20 to 00:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, and service during other periods were split into two routes, E11A and E11B.[18][19]
  • 24 October 2022: The service time from AsiaWorld-Expo during PM hours was adjusted to 16:30 to 00:00.[20]
  • 26 November 2023: The Airport terminus was relocated from AsiaWorld-Expo to the newly completed SKYCITY Transport Terminal. [21][22]
