The Airbus Route A29 is one of the "Cityflyer" routes operated by Citybus. It runs between Tseung Kwan O (Po Lam) and Airport, via Hang Hau, Kwun Tong Town Centre, Kowloon Bay, Diamond Hill, Wong Tai Sin, Tai Wo Ping and HZMB Hong Kong Port, and passing through Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, Cheung Tsing Tunnel and Lantau Link.

History[]

Citybus operates Routes E22A and E22B between Tseung Kwan O and North Lantau and Airport, but the journey time of these two routes is relatively long. In view of this, Citybus has put forward a series of proposals to reorganise the routes between Kowloon East and Tseung Kwan O to and from the airport in the "2010-2011 Bus Route Development Programme", including the extension of the Tseung Kwan O end of Route E22A to Hong Sing Garden, the cancellation of Route E22B and its replacement by Route E22P by a two-way rerouting via Sau Mau Ping and Four Shun, as well as the launching of the Cityflyer route A29, which was planned to come into operation in July 2010. However, the Sai Kung District Council was dissatisfied that the proposed full fare of $45 for Route A29 was too high, and hoped that the bus company would reduce the fare. Therefore, the Transport Department needed to invite interested companies to bid for the operation of this route.[1]

After a year-long selection process, Citybus was awarded the right to operate the route, and the full fare was reduced from the proposed $45 to $42. The route commenced service on 25 September 2011; meanwhile, routes E22A, E22B and E22P were also reorganised. [2]
