The Airbus Route A26 is one of the "Cityflyer" routes operated by Citybus. It runs between Yau Tong and Airport, via Lam Tin (Pik Wan Road), Sau Mau Ping, Four Shun, Ngau Tau Kok, Jordan Valley, Choi Hung, Diamond Hill, Wong Tai Sin (Lung Cheung Road), Tai Wo Ping (Beacon Heights), and connects to and from the Hong Kong International Airport and HZMB Hong Kong Port via Ching Cheung Road, Cheung Tsing Tunnel and Lantau Link.
History[]
Enhancing airport bus services to Pik Wan Road and introducing services to Anderson[]
At the time when this route was conceived, Citybus routes E22P and E22X serving Yau Tong and Lam Tin (Pik Wan Road) only provide one-way service to the airport in the morning and Yau Tong in the evening from Mondays to Fridays, and those who wish to travel to and from the airport during the rest of the daytime will have to make use of other means of transport to connect to the Citybus airport services.
Meanwhile, the first two public housing estates in the Anderson Road Development Area, On Tat Estate and On Tai Estate, were completed for occupation in the first quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017 respectively. While the population and transport demand in the area continue to rise, there is no public transport service connecting the area to the airport.
In view of this, the Transport Department (TD) and Citybus proposed in the 2017-2018 Bus Route Planning Programme to introduce Route A26 to enable residents of the aforementioned area to enjoy express services to and from the Airport. [1]
- 29 January 2018: Route A26 commenced service.[2][3]
- 1 June 2018: A new stop was added at "Tan Fung House Choi Hung Estate" on Lung Cheung Road for Airport direction, with the original section fare advanced to take effect from that stop. [4]
- 30 December 2018: A new stop was added at "Beacon Heights" on Lung Cheung Road for both directions, with section fares added on that stop for Yau Tong direction. [5]
- 29 November 2019: Due to the expansion works at the Airport Terminal 2, buses on the Airport direction no longer detoured via Sky Plaza Road and the "Airport (Terminal Two)" bus stop was cancelled. [6][7]
- 1 April 2020: Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the service time of the route was significantly reduced temporarily, with the last bus from Yau Tong departing earlier to 13:30 and the first bus from the Airport delayed to 15:45.[8]
- 4 January 2021: Departures from Yau Tong at 07:30 and Airport at 17:45 from Mondays to Saturdays detoured via Sky City Road East on a trial basis: [9]
- Airport direction: After arriving via original routing atAirport South Interchange, the route was rerouted via Cheong Lin Road, Sky City Interchange, Sky City Road East, Sky City Interchange, Cheong Lin Road, then return to the Ground Transportation Centre Bus Terminus;
- Yau Tong direction: After departing from Ground Transportation Centre Bus Terminus, the route was rerouted via Cheong Lin Road, Sky City Interchange, Sky City Road East, Sky City Interchange, Cheong Lin Road, then return to Airport Road and original routing;
- New stops were added at "Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel" and "Sky City Interchange" on Sky City Road East for both directions.
- 7 August 2021: Departures from Yau Tong at 06:30 and Airport at 16:45 from Mondays to Saturdays were detoured via Airport Expo Boulevard and Sky City Road East on a trial basis, with additional stops at "AsiaWorld-Expo", "Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel" and "Sky City Interchange" on Sky City Road East. The original special trips detouring via Sky City Road East also stopped at "AsiaWorld-Expo" stop on Airport Expo Boulevard. [10]
- 23 September 2023: [11][12]
- The last bus time from Yau Tong was resumed to 20:30;
- The first bus time from Airport was resumed to 11:45;
- Both directions detoured via HZMB Hong Kong Port.
Rerouting via Sau Mau Ping, Sze Shun and Jordan Valley to expand airport bus service scope[]
In the 2020-2021 Bus Route Planning Programme, the Transport Department (TD) proposed to to provide full-day airport bus service for more Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O passengers: Route A26P between Yau Tong and the Airport would be merged into Route A26, which would rerouted via Sau Ming Road, Shun On Road, Chun Wah Road and Choi Ha Road, while services at Po Tat Estate and Anderson would be replaced by the new route A28.[13] Some Sai Kung District Council (SKDC) members queried the meandering nature of Route A28 and requested for its streamlining[14], thus prompting the Transport Department (TD) to submit a revised proposal later in December 2020, under which the airport bus services at Shun Lee would be taken over by this route, while Route A28 would only detour via the area around Shun Lee Fire Station for Tseung Kwan O direction.[15]
The programme was originally scheduled for implementation in the third quarter of 2020, but due to a sharp drop in airport bus patronage as a result of the novel coronavirus pneumonia[16], implementation has been delayed until the fourth quarter of 2023.
- 18 December 2023: Merged with Route A26P to tie in with the reorganisation of Cityflyer routes:[17][18][19]
- Rerouted via Sau Mau Ping Estate, Shun Tin Estate, Shun Lee Estate, Lok Wah Estate, Cheerful Court and Choi Ying Estate for both directions, omitting Po Tat Estate, On Tat Estate, On Tai Estate and Choi Wan Estate;
- Departures from Yau Tong changed to operate from 06:00 to 20:30 daily and that from the Airport to operate from 11:35 to 23:35 daily;
- Departures from Yau Tong at 06:00 and 07:30 daily detoured via Cathay Pacific City.
- 29 January 2024: The afternoon peak hour special departures via Sky City Road East were rerouted via Airport Road, Sky City Road, Airport Expo Boulevard and Sky City Road East after Cheong Lin Road, and then return to its original routing at Chek Lap Kok Road. [20]
