The Airbus Route A25 is one of the "Cityflyer" routes operated by Citybus. It runs between Kai Tak and Airport, via To Kwa Wan (Lower To Kwa Wan Road), Hung Hom, Tsim Sha Tsui and HZMB Hong Kong Port, and connects between Airport and the urban via West Kowloon Highway, Stonecutters Bridge, Nam Wan Tunnel and Lantau Link.
History[]
Introducing Background[]
The Citybus Route A23 between Tsz Wan Shan and the airport has to take a detour through Kai Tak, To Kwa Wan, Hung Hom and Jordan. Residents of Tsz Wan Shan were dissatisfied with the circuitous routing, criticising the route as taking about 100 minutes to reach the airport, which was a "Airport Bus Fare but E Route services".[1] Subsequently, due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia (later called COVID-19 pandemic), the A23 service was suspended after less than three months of operation.
In February 2021, it was proposed in the annual Bus Route Development Programme (BRDP) that Route A23 should be diverted via Kowloon Tong and Sham Shui Po, while the existing section between Kai Tak and Hung Hom would be replaced by the new whole-day Route A25 between Kai Tak (Muk Yuen Street) and Airport. The new route will be diverted via Tsim Sha Tsui after observing Hung Hom and will then enter Austin Road West and Lin Cheung Road to return to West Kowloon Highway, providing faster bus services to and from the airport and the HZMB Hong Kong Port. The District Councils along the route were generally supportive of the rationalisation plan, but were concerned about the service level of the route and also had more comments on the routing details, including that the airport-bound direction should also be bypassed via Hung Hom Station, the inconvenient location of the Avenue of Stars midway stop, and the provision of an intermediate stop near the XRL Station for both round trips, etc.[2][3]
In early 2023, tourism in Hong Kong gradually returned to normal. Citybus launched this route as part of the Government's publicity campaign. In response to local views, this route was proposed to observe in both directions via the Austin Station area without entering the Lin Cheung Road underpass to facilitate access to the airport by residential residents such as Grand Austin, but other proposals were not adopted. In addition, the Kai Tak (Muk Yuen Street) terminus is not yet operational and the Kowloon terminus has been relocated to Concorde Road. However, this route is only available on Saturdays and holidays and no service is provided on weekdays. As the Route A23 is still out of service, this route can replace it to provide services to and from Lantau Island in Kowloon City during the relevant periods.
