Ridership[]

In Kwun Tong, there is also Route A29 which runs directly to and from the airport via Lung Cheung Road, while Route A22 is more circuitous, with the main sources of passengers coming from Kowloon City, To Kwa Wan and Jordan. In addition, the Kowloon section of Route A22 overlaps with KMB Route 14 and has a cheaper section fare towards Lam Tin, which is attractive to passengers travelling along the route. As the 2020 novel coronavirus pandemic has hit the aviation industry hard, and amidst the drastic service adjustments of many airport routes, this route has once introduced a special short-haul daytime trip in April, so that it can still maintain eastbound service for the Kowloon section even after the reduction in the number of trips to and from the Airport.

According to the Bus Route Planning Programmes and other documents, the ridership of this route is as follows:

  • 2012: The average daily patronage was 3,310 and the total number of passengers carried after 22:30 in the Airport bound before the last bus time was advanced was 4, i.e. an average of about 1 passenger per bus.
  • 2018: The overall passenger amounts of 9 franchised A Routes, including this route, Routes A11, A21, A29, A31, A33X, A35, A36 and A41, were: 910,000 thousand (September); 110,300 (October); 138,300 (November). [32]
  • 2019: After detouring via the HZMB Hong Kong Port, the peak hour patronage rate to the airport/border crossing and the urban area is 95% and 30% respectively. [33]
