Ridership[]

CTB Stop 1061B KaOnStreet A12info

The promotional poster set up by Citybus at "Ka On Street" bus stop promoting the $8.0 section fare from Western District to Eastern District, with the promotion now already removed

In the past, Route A12 detoured whole-day via Shek Tong Tsui, and successfully absorbed passengers from Western District to Eastern District towards Siu Sai Wan [40], and even spawned Route 18X. However, for passengers travelling to and from the airport in the Eastern District, the arrangement of detouring to the Western District and stopping at Central or Wan Chai North has slowed down the journey time, and the relevant districts are also covered by routes A10 and A11 respectively. Therefore, it has been repeatedly re-routed according to the proposal [41][42] since 2023 to provide quicker and faster service to and from the airport to the passengers in the Eastern District.

According to the Bus Route Planning Programme and other information, the ridership of this route are as follows:

  • 2012: The average daily number of passengers is 4,240, with the total number of passengers travelling after 22:30 to Airport before the last bus time is 8 (i.e. an average of about 2 passengers per bus).
  • 2016: The ridership of 06:00 to 09:00 departures towards Siu Sai Wan is about 20-38% of that of double-decker buses.[43]
  • 2023: The average weekday and weekend patronage of the Siu Sai Wan bound trips was about 35% and 40% respectively. [44]
  • 2024: The occupancy rate during the peakiest hour was 70%.

Related incidents[]

  • 31 October 2013: At around 9:00am, an Airport-bound Dennis Trident (2129/HT4830) crashed into the rear of a minibus on Hong Kong Island GMB Route 20 on Shau Kei Wan Road as it was about to turn left into Holy Cross Drive. No one was injured in the incident.[45]
