The New Territories Bus Route 795X is operated by Citybus. It runs between Oscar by the Sea and So Uk[Remark 1], first passing through Tiu Keng Leng and Tseung Kwan O Town Centre before going on to Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, Kai Tak Tunnel, East Kowloon Corridor to/from Hung Hom (← Chatham Road North), Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok, and then on to the West Kowloon Corridor to reach the Mei Foo and Cheung Sha Wan Business Area.
At the beginning, this route was a special departure of Route 796C with almost the same routing in Tseung Kwan O. When it was upgraded to a whole-day service, it became an independent route, and later the routing was revised substantially to provide direct service to Tseung Kwan O South to the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Bus-Bus Interchange.
History[]
Commencement of express route and rapid upgrade to whole-day service[]
TD and NWFB have proposed in the "2021-2022 Bus Route Planning Programme" that Route 796C would introduce a new special departure, Route 795X, during peak hours from Mondays to Fridays (except public holidays), which also ran between Oscar by the Sea and So Uk, but runs through the Kai Tak Tunnel and the East Kowloon Corridor to Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok, and then onto the West Kowloon Corridor to Mei Foo and Cheung Sha Wan Business Area, so as to cater for the needs of the passengers.[1] The then Sai Kung District Councillor, Miss Lai Wai-tong, noting that Tseung Kwan O South was not yet fully covered by the bus service, suggested that the route should pass through the area of Alto Residences, and another Councillor asked for an increase in the frequency of the service. TD replied at the time that it would consider following up the suggestion in the light of passenger demand and relevant views after the route was launched.[2]
However, in the 2022-2023 Bus Route Planning Programme, TD and NWFB claimed that Route 795X, which had yet to be introduced at that time, overlapped with some sections of Routes 796C and 796E, and therefore proposed to enhance the service of Route 795X to provide a whole-day express service between Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok and Cheung Sha Wan; and Routes 796C and 796E would be merged to form a new route, Route 793, which would provide whole-day service linking the Kowloon Bay Business Area. With the implementation of the two schemes in 2022, this route was upgraded from a special peak-hour service to a standalone whole-day service within six months of its operation.
- 28 February 2022: Route 795X entered service.[3][4]
- 21 August 2022:[5][6]
- Upgraded to a whole-day service, with the service hours from Oscar by the Sea being 05:30 - 23:30 and that from So Uk being 06:10 - 00:10;
- Upgraded to an independent route following the cancellation of Route 796C.
- 1 July 2023: Changed to be operated by Citybus following the Citybus and NWFB Franchised Bus Network Merger.
- 5 November 2023: Interchange concession with Route 50 was introduced.[7]
Amendment of routing to improve interchange networks[]
Route 795X is the only whole-day direct route from the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel BBI to Yau Ma Tei and Mei Foo. Although the "Arrangements on Franchised Bus Services to tie in with the Opening of Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel and Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link" suggested this route to be diverted to Tseung Lam Highway, it was not implemented due to the large number of passengers boarding and alighting at the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel BBI, and the opening of Tseung Lam Highway has relieved the congestion of Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, and the patronage has risen and the rate of increase is the highest amongst all the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel routes of the Citybus.
However, the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel BBI lacks a whole-day direct route to Tseung Kwan O South, and the alignment of Route 795X in Tseung Kwan O is very similar to that of Routes 793 and 796X. TD and Citybus have therefore arranged for the re-routing of Route 795X in accordance with the 2024-2025 Bus Route Planning Programme to directly link up the TKO Interchange with the Tseung Kwan O Plaza area, with a view to saving about 6 minutes of travelling time for the passengers in the area, and also enhancing the network efficiency of the TKO Interchange. On the implementation date of the reorganisation, Citybus further introduced interchange concessions between this route and the Kowloon Urban routes and Southern District WHC routes. However, the official website once displayed an incorrect amount of concessions, which was misleading to the public.[8][9]
- 29 September 2024: Routing within Tseung Kwan O Town Centre and Tiu Keng Leng were amended:[10][11]
- For So Uk direction: Re-routed via Tong Yin Street after Chi Shin Street towards Tiu Keng Leng Station, then via Tong Ming Street, Tong Chun Street, Po Yap Road, Wan Po Road back to Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Road and original routing;
- For Oscar by the Sea direction: Re-routed via Wan Po Road, Po Yap Road, Po Hong Road, Tong Ming Street, King Ling Road, Chui Ling Road, Po Yap Road and Tong Yin Street after Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Road before returning to Chi Shin Street.
- Interchange concessions with Routes 20, 20A, 701, 701A, 790, 970, 970X and 971 were introduced.

Bus deployments[]
This route is served by 8 double-decker buses with the main models being Volvo B9TL 12m (5200-5224) and Enviro500/MMC 12m (5518-5582/5583-5599, 5601-5851, 515XX).
Operations[]
In view of the remote location of Oscar by the Sea Bus Terminus and the inconvenient traffic conditions, most of the running orders are arranged for bus captains to hand over duties at Tiu Keng Leng Station for duty or lunch. Bus captains who drive the last Tseung Kwan O-bound bus before leaving work or having lunch will still have to drive the buses to the urban direction after arriving at Oscar by the Sea, and carry passengers along the way until they arrive at Tiu Keng Leng Station, when another bus captain will take over the driving duties. Therefore, some of the So Uk-bound trips may need to stop at Tiu Keng Leng Station for the bus driver to hand over duties, during which the passengers can stay on the bus.

Ridership[]
According to the Bus Route Planning Programmes and other documents, the ridership of this route is as follows:
- 2023:
- March: The number of passengers boarding and alighting at Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Bus-Bus Interchange was around 400;[12]
- December: The daily average ridership rose by 40% compared to that before the opening of Tseung Lam Highway.[13]
- 2024: The occupancy rate during the busiest hour was 63%.
Trivia[]
Route 795X has a unique routing, and both NWFB and Citybus has been adopting different ways to introduce it. For example, at the beginning of its operation, it recorded an announcement to publicise its name as "Tseung Kwan O - West Kowloon Express" (將軍澳—西九龍快線)[14]; after its upgrade to whole-day service it also designed banners on the bus body to publicise its respective areas of service with Route 793; and hung banners at the bus stops in the area to list the locations of the Kowloon routes.
In September 2024, Route 795X revised its routing in Tseung Kwan O South to operate in Tseung Kwan O via Chi Sin Street, Tiu Keng Leng, Tong Ming Street, and via Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, Kai Tak Tunnel and Gascoigne Road, just like Route 796P. Citybus started to bundle the promotion of the two routes, including putting up promotional materials at bus stops in Kowloon where the two routes overlap eastbound, introducing the direct access of the two routes to Beverly Garden and Sheung Tak, as well as highlighting the urban Kowloon destinations reached by the two routes at bus stops in the Tseung Kwan O area westbound.
In December 2024, Citybus designed bus body banners and printed postal circular leaflets to promote the two routes with the theme of "Urban Kowloon in a Blink" (九龍市區就在一瞬).[15]
