Hong Kong Buses Wiki

The New Territories Bus Route 586 is one of the "Ma On Shan - Sai Sha Network" routes operated by Citybus. It runs between GO PARK Sai Sha and Tsuen Wan Station, which operates via Ma On Shan Bypass and Sha Lek Highway first towards Tai Wai where it makes stops, before proceeding via Tsing Sha Highway towards Cheung Sha Wan Business Area, Mei Foo and Container Terminals, then ascending onto Tsuen Wan Road towards Tsuen Wan Town Centre (Sha Tsui Road). It provides outbound and inbound services only during morning and evening peak hours on Mondays to Fridays respectively.

History[]

Commencing background[]

To support housing development in the Shap Sze Heung area, the Transport Department proposed five new bus routes in the 2023-2024 Bus Route Planning Programme. One of these would operate between Tsuen Wan Station, detouring via Tsing Sha Highway and Cheung Sha Wan Commercial Area on the way, with four one-way services each during morning and evening peak hours from Mondays to Fridays.[1] District councillors anticipate that the four return services would meet residents' needs, while local organisations have pointed out the circuitous route, suspecting it is designed to avoid overlapping with KMB Route 40E's service area.[2][3]

In September 2023, the Transport Department indicated that Citybus won the tender for all five new routes[4], with this route being numbered "586".

Route change history[]

  • 1 December 2025: Route 586 entered service, initially operating one trip on each direction.[5][6][7]
