The New Territories Bus Route 56A is operated by Citybus. It runs between Tuen Mun (Ching Tin and Wo Tin) and Queen's Hill Fanling, via Kin Sang Estate, Siu Hong, MTR Sheung Shui Station, Tin Ping Estate and Luen Wo Hui, taking Yuen Long Highway, San Tin Highway and Fanling Highway to and from Tuen Mun and North Districts.

The "Northern Link" Route 56A is a special departure of Route 56 and is only available during morning and afternoon peak hours from Mondays to Fridays, with identical routing and stopping arrangements between Tuen Mun and Tin Ping Estate.

History[]

Commencing Background[]

Some Legislative Council ("LegCo") Members and local communities have pointed out that many Queen's Hill residents, who originally live in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai, still live in the districts concerned and have a keen demand for transport services to and from the districts, and they have been striving for the enhancement of public transport services by the relevant authorities. In view of this, Citybus has applied to the Transport Department (TD) in September 2022 to extend the northern terminus of Route 56 from Tin Ping Estate to Queen's Hill in response to the demand, and subject to the approval of the TD, the extension can be implemented from 13 September at the earliest.[2] However, Citybus was only allowed to operate this route in place of the original proposal, which was to be implemented from the end of September.[3]

  • 30 September 2022: Route 56A commenced service.[4][5]
  • 20 February 2023: Adult Octopus Interchange discount of $1.0 with MTR was added to this route, with designated interchange station at Sheung Shui Station.[6]
  • 27 February 2023: AM departures from Tuen Mun were increased to two, departing at 06:30 and 06:45.[7]
  • 6 November 2023: The service hours were extended to 06:30 to 08:45 and 15:15 to 17:45 for trips from Ching Tin Estate, and 06:45 to 08:45 and 17:05 to 19:15 for trips from Queen's Hill Fanling.[8][9]
  • 22 April 2024: A new stop was added at "Green Code" on Sha Tau Kok Road - Lung Yeuk Tau. [10]
  • 28 July 2024: [11]
    • Rerouted via Tsun Wen Road for both directions and the Tuen Mun-bound section fare originally effective from Ching Tin Estate was changed to Wo Tin Estate;
    • The service time was amended, with the service time of trips from Tuen Mun being 06:30 to 08:50 and 15:10 to 17:50 and that from Fanling being 06:30 to 08:50 and 17:10 to 19:20.
