Commencement Background[]
To facilitate the future population growth in Area 54 of Tuen Mun, the Transport Department proposed in the 2019-2020 Bus Route Planning Programme to commence 6 new bus routes terminating in the area, with one of them running one-way towards Kwun Tong Ferry, taking Siu Hong, Hung Kiu, Tuen Mun Road and Lung Cheung Road towards Wong Tai Sin, Choi Hung and Kowloon Bay Business Area, providing service only during Monday to Friday AM peak hours. TD revised the proposal in December to introduce return trip services during PM peak hours at the same time.
The Transport Department announced on 3 August 2021 that the operating rights for all 6 new Tuen Mun Area 54 bus routes were won by Citybus,[2] with this route being numbered 55.[3]
