The New Territories Bus Route 50M is operated by Citybus. It runs circular between Wo Tin Estate and Tuen Mun Station, via Siu Hong, Leung Tin and Shan King. It is the first regular Tuen Mun intra-district route operated by Citybus.

History[]

Introducing Background[]

To cater for the future population growth in Tuen Mun Area 54, the Transport Department (TD) has proposed six new bus routes in the 2019-2020 Bus Route Planning Programme with the Area 54 as the terminus, including one to and from the MTR Siu Hong Station. Tuen Mun District members considered that the route between Tuen Mun Area 54 and Siu Hong Station should be handed over to MTR Bus to provide rail interchange concessions, and suggested extending it to Tuen Mun Town Centre to enhance the connectivity between Area 54 and the Town Centre.[1]

Subsequently, TD revised the original proposal in October 2020 to transfer the operating rights of original route between Area 54 and Siu Hong Station directly to MTR Bus, and to provide an additional local bus route via Tuen Mun Hospital, Kin Sang, Shan King, Tuen Mun Industrial Area and MTR Tuen Mun Station, with the operator to be decided through open tender.[2]

On 3 August 2021, the Transport Department (TD) announced that six new Tuen Mun Area 54 bus routes, one named 50M, would be operated by Citybus.[3] The TD further revised the scheme again before the commencement of the routes by observing Tin King Road also for the return trip.[4]
