Cheung Hang (Hang Mei Street) Terminus (長亨（亨美街）總站) is located at the base level of The Met. Azure and opposite to Cheung Wang Bus Terminus on Hang Mei Street, Tsing Yi, Kwai Tsing District, New Territories.
Originally a podium-style terminus between Liu To Road and Hang Mei Street, the stop was closed on 1 May 2018 to tie in with the development of the private residential project "The Met. Azure", with the termini of Routes 409 and 409S relocated to Cheung Wang Bus Terminus opposite to it, while Route 409K was relocated to the on-street terminus outside SKH Ho Chak Wan Primary School on Hang Mei Street. There is a public transport terminus at the base level of the The Met. Azure to replace the original minibus terminus, which has been opened to service in late March 2024.
The now defunct Residents' Bus Route NR402 also started from outside SKH Ho Chak Wan Primary School on Hang Mei Street during its operation.
History[]
The Hang Mei Street green minibus (GMB) terminus commenced operations on 31 March 2005, which was also named "Public Light Bus (Schedule Services) Terminus in Hang Mei Street" (亨美街公共小型巴士（專線）總站).[1]
In 2014, the Government first proposed developing the GMB terminus site, together with the adjacent hillside plot, into private residential accommodation. The site area was approximately 0.14 hectares with a height restriction of 200 metres, capable of providing around 170 residential units, while the GMB terminus would be relocated to Cheung Wang Bus Terminus.[2] However, this proposal was shelved following strong opposition from the District Council.[3]
Two years later, the Town Planning Board approved changing the land use of the Hang Mei Street GMB terminus to Category A residential land.[4] The GMB terminus would need to be relocated and the Transport Department proposed improvement works at the Cheung Wang Bus Terminus opposite the minibus terminus to accommodate the three minibus routes originally served by the Hang Mei Street terminus.
The Hang Mei Street minibus terminus closed on 1 May 2018[5], vacating the site and returning it to the Lands Department. Routes 409 and 409S relocated their Tsing Yi terminus to a lay-by near Liu To Road at Cheung Wang Bus Terminus on 30 April, while that of Route 409K moved to a location outside the SKH Ho Chak Wan Primary School on Hang Mei Street (the former stop for Route NR402).[6]
The developer is required to construct at their own expense a public transport interchange with a minimum operational floor area of 837 square metres at ground level of the development[7] to relocate the original Hang Mei Street minibus terminus.
Construction works for the private residential housing, The Met. Azure, as well as the relocated green minibus terminus, was completed in 2022 but the terminus was opened only on 31 March 2024.[8]
