The Central Pier 5 (中環5號碼頭, Citybus Location Code CEF) bus terminus is located opposite Central Pier No.5 on Man Kwong Street, Central, Central and Western District, Hong Kong Island. It is an open-air roadside bus terminus, belonging to the group of bus termini collectively known as "Central Piers". Dynamic Bus Stop Lists will show that the name of this stop is "Central (Ferry Piers)".

When the Citybus Peak Explorer Stop Announcement System announces the stop, the announcement "Bravobus Stopreporter ! Logo For Star Ferry, please alight at this stop." (Bravobus Stopreporter ! Logo 前往天星碼頭,請於此站下車。) will be played right after.

Eastbound Man Kwong Street branches from Pier 4 to the left and branches into two lanes leading to Piers 4 to 6. The left lane is close to the entrance and exit of the pier, while franchised buses use the right lane and the main road of Man Kwong Street to head to their next stop.

This terminus is in the same area as Central (Star Ferry) Terminus and belongs to the Central Piers, but the No Smoking Area of the Central Piers does not include this stop, and the no-smoking areas on both sides are not connected. This kind of no-smoking zoning method is unique.

Introduction and History[]

After the completion of the first phase of the Central Reclamation Project, an intermediate bus stop was set up at a section of Man Kwong Street opposite Central Pier 5, which was opened on 19 June 2002, Citybus Route 37B and NWFB Route M722 were the first to stop here[1]. From 21 June, in order to alleviate the overcrowding at Central Ferry Piers Bus Terminus, Citybus Routes 11, 12, and 511 were made to terminate at this bus stop, while NWFB Route 2 was made to stop here as an intermediate stop on eastbound journeys[2]. From 28 July onwards, NWFB Routes 4, 25, and 94 will stop here in both directions on their way to and from Central Piers[3].

Incorporation with the Star Ferry routes to Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom moving to CentalPiers 7 and 8, from 12 November 2006, departures of NWFB Route 15 after 10am will terminate here.

On 18 October 2009, the NWFB Rickshaw Sightseeing Bus entered service, Citybus and New World First Bus have reorganized the pits of some routes at the Central Ferry Piers to accommodate. Among them, routes 11 and 12 have which have been using Pier 5 terminus for more than seven years, have both moved back to Central Ferry Piers Terminus. New World First Bus Route 25 has moved from Central Pier terminus to this stop. At the same time, Route 15C was also changed to set up an alighting stop at this stop; for this reason, the original Citybus staff canteen was also changed to the New World First Bus canteen. During the 2023 Citybus and NWFB Franchised Bus Network Merger, it would be transferred back to Citybus.

In order to cooperate with the Central-Wan Chai Bypass and the Eastern District Corridor Link Road project, the boarding and alighting station of Route 15C will be moved to Central Pier 8 starting from 21 September 2010, but the stop name would remain unchanged.[4][5]

This station is also the starting point of the Taiping Qingjiao Special Route 104R.

NWFB installed a Passenger Information System at this stop in February 2020, using a small TV outside the Terminus Supervisor's Office to provide passengers with access to the "Central Pier" bus terminus group departure times, but currently only the times of Routes 2, 4, 15, 25, 722 and 780 are displayed.

Stop Name[]

This station was once named this stop "Central Pier 5, Man Kwong Street" (中環五號碼頭,民光街) with a street name and Chinese numerals to represent the pier number; this stop is not actually located on the main road of Man Kwong Street, Citybus later converted the Chinese numerals in the Chinese names into Arabic numerals and deleted the street names.

KMB put the 978 series of routes into service at this stop, with the Chinese name, which included the Chinese character for 5, being "Central Ferry Pier No.5" (中環五號碼頭). NWFB named this stop "Pier No.5" (5號碼頭) until February 2004 when it was changed to its current name, which is the same as the current name that KMB uses for this stop.
