The Central (Star Ferry) Bus Terminus (中環（天星碼頭）總站, Citybus Location Code STF) is located outside Central Pier No. 6, Man Kwong Street, Central, Central & Western District, Hong Kong Island, of the vicinity with Central Pier No. 6 (i.e. Star Ferry Pier). As a part of the collective "Central Piers Bus Termini", Star Ferry Pier is characterized as an open-air outdoor bus terminus.
When the Citybus Stop Announcement System announces this stop, the screen displays "
Central (Star Ferry), International Finance Centre" (中環（天星碼頭）、國際金融中心).
Mid-stops of franchised buses and terminus of minibuses are situated behind the bus terminus, including minibuses route 22S、22X及54. The minibus operators generally name the stop as "Central Piers" (中環碼頭) or "Central Ferry Piers" (中環渡輪碼頭)。
The left side of this section of Man Kwong Street is divided into two slip roads. Except for Hong Kong Island GMB Route 54 which stops at Man Kwong Street Main Road, all other GMBs and franchised buses with this stop as their terminus or intermediate stop are located on the right-hand side of the slip road.
This station, like Central Pier 5 Bus Terminus, is within the No Smoking Area of Central Ferry Piers Bus Terminus, but the No Smoking Area of Central Ferry Piers Bus Terminus does not include this stop, and there is no connection between the two No Smoking Areas, which is a unique arrangement.
History[]
After the completion of the Central Reclamation Phase I, a bus stop was commenced opposite Pier 6 in Central, called "Central (Pier 7)" (中環（7號碼頭）) by NWFB and "Pier 7, Man Kwong Street" (七號碼頭，民光街) by Citybus. In 2002, the stop was given a local name, namely "Central Pier 7, Man Kwong Street" (中環七號碼頭，民光街), and the Chinese number in the Chinese name was later changed to an Arabic number, but in fact Pier 6 is actually closer to this stop than Pier 7.
Due to the closure of Edinburgh Place Pier on 12 November 2006 as a result of the Central Reclamation Phase III project, the Star Ferry Central - Tsim Sha Tsui and Central - Hung Hom Routes were diverted to Central Piers No. 7 and 8 respectively. To facilitate the interchange of ferry passengers, the Transport Department has relocated the terminus of NWFB Routes 15 and 15C and Citybus Route 629 to this stop, stopping at the second and third stops respectively. This has resulted in a rare case of "two stops" for the same bus company, with the old Star Ferry bus terminus at Edinburgh Place being renamed "Central (City Hall)".
NWFB Rickshaw Sightseeing Bus Routes H1 and H2 commenced service on 18 October 2009, with this stop as the terminus. To tie in with the commencement of the new route, the routes with an intermediate stop there was relocated to the third stop with effect from 12 October, so that the first stop could be vacated for the new routes, and the stop was officially designated as Central (Star Ferry). Shortly afterwards, the Central - Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor Link project commenced and the terminus of Route 15C was relocated from this stop to outside Central Pier No. 7 with effect from 21 September 2010, with the name of the stop remaining "Central (Star Ferry)"[Remark 1] and Route 3A was relocated from Central Ferry Piers Bus Terminus to this stop.[Remark 2][1]
With effect from 13 December 2014, the terminus of Routes 15C and H1 were exchanged and this stop was re-titled as the terminus of Route 15C. To tie in with the roadworks on Man Kwong Street, the terminus of Routes 15C and H1 were exchanged again with effect from 12 October of the following year and Route 15C was relocated back to outside Pier No. 7.[2]
