Cathay City (Scenic Road)

Cathay City (國泰城, Citybus Location Code CXC) bus stop is located off Cathay Pacific City, between the Chun Wan Road Interchange and the roundabout at the junction of East Coast Road and Chun Yue Road on southbound Scenic Road, Airport (Logistics Area) of Chek Lap Kok, Islands District, New Territories.

A bus stop shelter has been built by Cathay Pacific and a bus stop advertising box has been dedicated to Cathay Pacific's own advertising since its inception.

All Overnight Airbus Routes via Tuen Mun Chek Lap Kok Tunnel Road terminates here as the Airport terminus.

History[]

This stop was opened on 22 June 1998, when the Logistics Area came into operation, as an en-route stop on the route extending to the Airport (Ground Transportation Centre) from that date. At the beginning of its operation, the footbridge linking this stop to the northbound bus stop at the bus stop loop on Scenic Road was not yet in place, making it difficult for pedestrians to cross the road and therefore the route stopped at this stop in both directions.^[1]

The footbridge was completed and opened on 27 June 1999 to coincide with the completion of Cathay City next to the bus stop in the following month. With immediate effect, routes that had been calling at this stop were no longer using this stop when heading towards the city and were instead calling at the new bus stop on the bus stop loop to its opposite. Since then, this stop has served as a sub-stop for a number of external routes from North Lantau towards the airport, with a clear distinction between its use and that of the bus stop on Roundabout Road.

In the early years of operation, the location of the bus stop was described differently by LWB, with the majority of routes using "Chun Ming Road o/s Cathay City" as one of the stops on Chun Ming Road, but routes E42 and S64 used the name "Scenic Rd. o/s Cathay City")^[2]. In January 2004, LWB changed the description of the bus stop location to "Cathay City o/s Cathay City", although the road name in the description was still incorrect, the bus stop number was corrected to the current status. The location description has now been corrected to "Scenic Rd o/s Cathay City".

The English name of Cathay Pacific headquarters was changed from Cathay City to Cathay Pacific City between late 2016 and 2025, but the old name is still used as the English name of the station by NLB and Coronet Ray Development^{[Remark 1]}. With the renaming back to Cathay City in 2025, LWB took the lead in renaming the stop but Citybus has yet to rename its own.

Surrounding facilities[]

Cathay Pacific City, i.e. the corporate headquarter building of Cathay Pacific Airways, is opposite to this bus stop, whereas its affiliated crew hotel "Headland Hotel" (逸泰居) is located behind the bus stop; the Cathay Pacific Airways Flight Training Centre (國泰飛行培訓中心) was also built nearby.

Walk along the footbridge next to this station and cross over Scenic Road to reach the corresponding northbound bus stop on the dedicated bus stop loop at Scenic Road, also named "Cathay City" by the bus companies.
