Castle Peak Road - Kwu Tung (青山公路－古洞段) is the northernmost section of Castle Peak Road which connects to Castle Peak Road - Chau Tau at Ho Sheung Heung Road, Kwu Tung on the west, and to Fan Kam Road on the east.
KMB has prefixed all stops along the entire Castle Peak Road with CA07.
History[]
Castle Peak Road - Kwu Tung is a section of Castle Peak Road traversing rural areas. In 1968, Castle Peak Road was subdivided, with the section between Dill's Corner (Shek Tsai Leng) and Sheung Shui Crossroads (now Tai Tau Leng Roundabout) designated as the "Kwu Tung" section.[1]
In earlier times, the Kwu Tung section served as the principal route between Yuen Long and Sheung Shui until the opening of Fanling Highway and San Tin Highway.
Historically, the eastern terminus of Castle Peak Road - Kwu Tung formed a crossroads with Tai Po Road - Fanling, Fan Kam Road and San Fung Avenue, known as "Sheung Shui Crossroads". In 1982, the section of San Fung Avenue at this junction was converted into a footpath, with its vehicular function replaced by the newly constructed Po Shek Wu Road. On 28 February 1985, to facilitate the construction of Fanling Highway, portions of Tai Po Road - Fanling were incorporated into the latter. Consequently, the New Territories terminus of Castle Peak Road had to be relocated southwards, intersecting solely with Fan Kam Road. The remnants of the original Castle Peak Road section are now a narrow path north of the present-day Towngas Fanling West Offtake Station.
