Castle Peak Road - Kwai Chung (青山公路 – 葵涌段) is one of the sections of Castle Peak Road which runs from Butterfly Valley Interchange (i.e. the junction of Ching Cheung Road slip road, Tsing Sha Highway slip road, Butterfly Valley Road and the northbound section of the Kowloon section of Castle Peak Road) in the south to Texaco Interchange and Tsuen Wan section in the north. KMB has prefixed all stops along the entire Castle Peak Road as CA07.
The section of Castle Peak Road - Kwai Chung west of Cheung Wing Road is the boundary between Kwai Tsing and Tsuen Wan districts, with the northern part belonging to Tsuen Wan District and the southern part belonging to Kwai Tsing District.
The Government used to display this section as "Castle Peak Road" on the road signs for a long time without indicating the name of the section, and then replaced the road signs from May 2016 onwards to add the name of the section.
Many drivers (e.g. minibus connoisseurs) refer to the section of Castle Peak Road south of Wo Yi Hop Road as "青山上路" in Cantonese (which roughly translates into "Castle Peak Upper Road"), and this term is also used from time to time in radio traffic news.
KMB Route 42C passes through almost the entire Castle Peak Road - Kwai Chung on both directions.
History[]
Castle Peak Road - Kwai Chung is one of the sections of Castle Peak Road, which had been the backbone of Tsuen Wan since its opening in the 1910s, and in 1968, Castle Peak Road was split into the Kwai Chung section from 5 metres to 8 metres.[1]
However, after the opening of Kwai Chung Road and Lai Chi Kok Bridge in 1968, the Kwai Chung section between Butterfly Valley and Cheung Wing Road has been less used, although it is more convenient for travelling to Kowloon East, while the section between Cheung Wing Road and Texaco Road is the main road between Kwai Chung and Tsuen Wan Town Centre, and is used by many bus routes.
