The CAD Headquarters (民航處總部) bus stop is located outside Cathay House, opposite the new CAD headquarters building and adjacent to the CNAC House, 11 Tung Fai Road[Remark 1], East Commercial District of the Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok, Islands District, New Territories.
The bus stop is one-way in design with only one bay. As traffic in westbound Tung Fai Road can only turn left onto East Coast Road southbound, all routes are heading towards the urban area.
Only Citybus has a stop pole at this stop, and it is one of the few Citybus stop signs among the various mid-stops of Route S1 that list its route number. When the Citybus Stop Announcement System announces this stop, the screen displays " CAD Headquarters, Cathay House, CNAC House" (民航處總部、國泰坊、中航大廈).[1]
History[]
This station was opened on 25 June 2000 to coincide with the opening of Dragonair House and Route S1 started to observe this stop on that day, which Long Win Bus (LWB) named the stop "Tung Fai Road" (東輝路).
Even though Dragonair and CNAC House are two separate buildings and the bus stop is located opposite Dragonair House, Citybus has always referred to the stop as "Dragonair/CNAC House" (港龍/中航大廈). At the end of 2010, Citybus removed the slash from the station name and called it "Dragonair CNAC House", but the slash removal reverted in 2011.
The new Civil Aviation Department (CAD) Headquarters, located on a site allocated by the Airport Authority to the Government free of charge within the restricted area of the airport[2], was officially opened on 23 May 2013[3]. Citybus changed the name of the stop to "CAD Headquarters" on 11 January of the same year, and LWB followed suit in March 2014.
On 28 January 2016, the Cathay Pacific Group officially announced the change of its Dragonair name to "Cathay Dragon" (which ceased operations on 21 October 2020). On 28 November, Citybus updated its E22X route map but still referred to the stop as "Dragonair/CNAC House", although the promotion stated that the route went directly to "Cathay Dragon House", while the new version of the route map for routes E22P and S1 did not change.
On 21 October 2020, the Cathay Pacific Group underwent a business restructuring due to a significant drop in demand for air transport as a result of the novel coronavirus outbreak, which led to the closure of Cathay Dragon and the subsequent renaming of Cathay Dragon House to Cathay House. However, the official information of the Transport Department and the Gold Coast still uses "Cathay Dragon House" as the name of the terminus of Resident Bus Route NR766.[4][5]
In addition, there was once a Airport Community Transport route running between CAD Headquarters, Dragonair/CNAC House to and from the SkyPlaza (Terminal 2), with pick-up and drop-off points within private roads, which was discontinued in 2019.
