Arbuthnot Road is a road in Central and Western District, Central on Hong Kong Island, starting from Hollywood Road and Wyndham Street in the north, and ending at Caine Road and Upper Albert Road in the south.
Although this road is a two-way southbound and northbound road, franchised buses currently only use one-way southbound (uphill direction), and all downhill buses take Garden Road.
History[]
Arbuthnot Road has a long history and was first seen on maps in the 1850s.
CMB commenced Route 13 on 16 April 1974 (later operated by New World First Bus (NWFB) and Citybus). It was the first public transportation passing through Arbuthnot Road. The bus stops of both directions were named directly after the road "Arbuthnot Road", and were renamed separately in 2003. The following year August 11, Route 23A also altered to go uphill via Arbuthnot Road.
On 22 July 2012, Route 13 was diverted to go down the mountain via Garden Road. Since then, no franchised buses have passed through this road northbound, and the "Enterprise Trade Center" stop on the road has also been discontinued.
On 27 August 2023, Wah Fu-bound service of Route 40M was cancelled. Since then, all the services passing through this road are Central and Western District Internal Routes (12, 12M and 13).
