Major events[]

  • 1984: A Common Stored Value Ticket processor was trialled on Citybus.
  • 2014: The Government launched a "Special Arrangement for the Ex-gratia Payment Scheme for Phasing Out Euro IV Diesel Commercial Vehicles" to retire around 82,000 diesel commercial vehicles with Euro IV emission standards, including minibuses and non-franchised buses and excluding special purpose vehicles. Vehicle owners are tntitled to purchase new vehicles under the Special Arrangement after demolishing the vehicles.
  • 2025: The Government amended various traffic laws, with those relating to buses and minibuses include:
    • The full height of single-decker buses were relaxed from 3.5m to 4.0m;
    • Electric Private Light Buses, as well as electric private and public buses with stated power no less than 7000 watts no longer required an Expressway Permit to operate on expressways;
    • Camera nmonitoring systems are permitted as a replacement for traditional reflex mirrors, with the camera monitor inside the system allowed to be exempted from the side overhangs of buses and minibuses;
    • LED lights are permitted to use as vehicle lights.

  • 1974: Cross-Harbour Bus Route 105 and first generation Hong Kong Island GMB Route 2 entered service.
  • 1976: KMB Route 45 entered service.
  • 1977: KMB Route 79A entered service.
  • 1978: CMB Route 85 entered service.
  • 1982: New Territories GMB routes 6, 7, 8 and 9 entered service.
  • 1984: Residents' Bus Route 710 entered service.
  • 1992: KMB Route 85M, CMB Route 590 and CMB Route 592 entered service.
  • 2017: Airport Express Shuttle Bus Routes Template:AEL, Template:AEL and Template:AEL entered service.
  • 2018: Kowloon GMB Route 25B entered service.
  • 2020: New Territories GMB routes 413, 806A and 806B entered service.
  • 2021: New Territories GMB Route 806C entered service.

  • 1977: First generation NLB Route 5 and KMB Route 82 ceased service.
  • 1982: KMB Route 204 ceased service.
  • 1984: KMB routes 57 and 58 ceased service.
  • 1990: Second generation KMB Route 202 ceased service.
  • 1994: KMB Route 13B ceased service.
  • 1997: CMB Route 45 ceased service.
  • 2017: First generation Airport Express Shuttle Bus Route H2 ceased service.
  • 2018: Kowloon GMB Route 85 ceased service.
  • 2022: Residents' Bus Route NR58 ceased service.
  • 2023: Residents' Bus Route NR535 ceased service.

Route changes[]

  • 1938: KMB Route 5 was extended from Kowloon City to Ngau Chi Wan with the KMB route rationalisation.
  • 1947: Fares for KMB Route 50 (numbered 3 at that time) were lowered amid the competition from illegal taxicabs.
  • 1956:  Route 10 was extended from Central Terminus to Sai Ying Pun.
  • 1957: KMB Route 6 was rerouted via Un Chau Street for Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park direction.
  • 1970: KMB Route 6D detoured via Shek Kip Mei and Tai Hang Tung Estate.
  • 1974: Cross-Harbour Bus Route 104 was extended from Shek Tong Tsui to West Point (Sands Street).
  • 1975:
  • 1977: KMB Route 73 was extended from Sheung Shui to Man Kam To; the termini of first generation KMB Route 78 was relocated from Luen Wo Hui to Sheung Shui.
  • 1989: The termini for Kowloon GMB Route 2 and morning service on Route 41M were relocated to Tat Chee Avenue Public Transport Terminus.
  • 1991: New Territories GMB Route 47S resumed detouring via Leung Tin, serving Tuen Mun District jointly with Route 48S.
  • 1992: KMB Route 70X detoured via Wah Ming Estate for both bounds.
  • 1993: KMB Route 67M was rerouted to operate via the whole of Tuen Mun Road whole day.
  • 1998: KMB Route 95 was rerouted via Sau Ming Road.
  • 2009: New Territories GMB Route 801S detoured via Ma On Shan Town Centre (Sai Sha Road, On Chun Street).
  • 2017:
    • Airport Express Shuttle Bus Route H1 was changed to serve Admiralty and Wan Chai, with the Hong Kong Island West service reorganised into the new route Template:AEL.
    • Service with circular point at Wan Chai on Residents' Bus Route HR53 was cancelled, and service to/from Ocean Park Station during daytime on Mondays to Saturdays was introduced.
  • 2021: Return service on KMB Route 3X was introduced to operate two trips from Jordan (West Kowloon Station) to Tsz Wan Shan (North).
