Major events[]

  • 1949: KMB reinstated the section fare system suspended during Japanese occupation, and resumed selling adult and student monthly passes for Kowloon Urban routes.
  • 1997: Bodies of all newly-licensed School Private Light Buses must be painted in yellow with purple waistline.
  • 1997: School buses transporting kindergarten and primary school pupils must provide an accompanying attendant, with a six-month transition period.
  • 2014: A mandatory retirement after 15 years were imposed on newly-registered diesel commercial vehicles, including minibuses and non-franchised buses.

Route introductions[]

  • 1975: Cross-Harbour Bus Route 111 and KMB Route 206 entered service.
  • 1983: CMB routes 82A, 83A and New Territories GMB Route 20 entered service.
  • 2000: Citybus Route 12S, NWFB routes 796M and 796X entered service.
  • 2003: KMB Route N48 and Cross-Harbour Bus Route N307 entered service. NWFB Route N595 also entered service, but providing service for a day only.
  • 2009: Residents’ Bus Route NR762 entered service.
  • 2015: Kowloon GMB Route 88 entered service.
  • 2024: KMB Route 91B and Residents’ Bus Route NR843 entered service.

  • 1982: Second generation CMB Route 88 ceased service.
  • 1994: KMB Route 1K ceased service.
  • 2000: KMB Route 296X ceased service.
  • 2003: KMB Route N96 ceased service.
  • 2014: Residents’ Bus Route NR114 ceased service.
  • 2018: Residents’ Bus Route NR929 ceased service.

  • 2022: New Territories GMB Route 412 ceased service.

Route changes[]

  • 1960: KMB Route 2 was extended to So Uk.

    • CMB Route 81M was extended from Admiralty MTR Station (East) to Central (Douglas Street), with both bounds rerouting via the whole of Gloucester Road.
    • CMB Route 83 was extended from Sai Wan Ho Ferry Pier to Taikoo Shing.
  • 1986: Short-working special service running circular between Cheung Wo Court and Yue Man Square on Kowloon GMB Route 34M was cancelled.
  • 1990: The Hong Kong Island terminus of Cross-Harbour Bus Route 106 was relocated to Sheung On Street.
  • 1994: KMB Route 46 was rerouted via Nathan Road for Lai Yiu direction.
  • 1996: Weekday return service on Cross-Harbour Bus Route 307 was introduced, rerouting via Cross-Harbour Tunnel and Lion Rock Tunnel.
  • 1999: KMB Route 296A was changed to operate as circular route between Hang Hau (North) and Ngau Tau Kok MTR Station and rerouted via Kwun Tong Road Underpass.
  • 2002: KMB Route N260 was rerouted via Tsing Lun Road and Lam Tei Interchange.
  • 2012: Choi Fook special service on KMB Route 14B entered service, and services on the main route were also reduced.
  • 2013: Saturday services on Residents’ Bus Route NR47 were cancelled.
  • 2018:
    • The 11:05 departure on NLB Route 11 on Mondays to Saturdays from Tung Chung Town Centre detoured via Sha Tsui Correctional Institution, while the 07:20 special departure from Shui Hau was changed to depart at 07:10 from Sha Tsui Correctional Institution.
    • The Shek Mun terminus of New Territories GMB Route 813 was relocated from Shek Mun Station to Shek Mun Estate, with the Shek Mun Estate-bound journey rerouting via On Kwan Street, On Yiu Street and On Ming Street after On Lai Street; Shui Chuen O-bound journey was rerouted via Ngan Shing Street abd Siu Lek Yuen Road, omitting Chap Wai Kon Street and Prince of Wales Hospital.
  • 2019: The Kwai Fong terminus of KMB Route 59A was relocated to Kwai Fong (Kwai Tsui Estate); New Territories GMB routes 94 and 94A were rerouted via Kwai Tsui Estate Public Transport Interchange for Kwai Shing Circuit direction.
  • 2024: Some trips on DBTSL Route DB02R and Residents’ Bus Route NR334 detoured via HZMB Hong Kong Port.

Terminus openings[]

  • 1985: Central (Exchange Square) was opened. The termini of CMB routes 6, 15, 61, 260 and 262 were relocated there.
  • 1985: Chai Wan (East) Bus Terminus was opened and the termini of CMB Route 82 was relocated there.
  • 1990: Siu Sai Wan Estate Bus Terminus was opened and the terminus of CMB Route 8 was relocated there.
